Family

At GT Advisory Solutions, family is at the heart of what we do. Families need different types of protection, from making sure they can access health care while travelling internationally to preparing for more serious life events, such as the premature passing of a household provider. Life protection, commonly known as life insurance, is not about putting value on a life. It is about helping the people left behind focus on healing while the necessary financial needs are taken care of through the right level of protection.
Some of the main types of protection many families consider include:
Life insurance: While living benefits like disability or critical illness insurance protect you during your lifetime, life insurance is primarily an estate planning tool used to ensure that loved ones or businesses are not left with a financial burden after the end of the life insured. Working parents, stay-at-home parents, business partners, and even young children benefit from this type of protection.Critical illness insurance: Also frequently referred to as "dread disease" insurance, is a type of accident and sickness insurance designed to provide a tax-free lump-sum payment if the insured person is diagnosed with a covered life-threatening or life-altering condition.Disability insurance: Critical illness insurance provides a tax-free lump sum upon a covered diagnosis, while disability insurance offers recurring monthly benefits to replace income lost through an inability to work due to injury or illness.Travel insurance: Travel insurance is a group of coverages designed to protect individuals travelling outside their home province or home country. Since provincial health care benefits vary, even within Canada, this coverage can help reduce the risk of unexpected medical expenses while away.

Wealth Accumulation: Secure Your Family’s Future. We offer a comprehensive suite of options to help you plan for the road ahead. From Segregated Funds and annuities that secure future resources and protect your family from the financial burden of caring for aging parents, to registered plans like RRSP, RESP, and RDSP, we have the right strategies to safeguard your family’s long-term goals.Pet insurance: Pet insurance is coverage designed to help pet owners manage eligible veterinary expenses if their pet becomes sick or injured. It can help reduce the financial stress of unexpected care, so families can focus on getting their pet the treatment they need. We can connect you with a great provider that offers this service directly.Click here to book a welcome call.

Business

Health Spending Accounts: Efficient Benefits for Owners and Teams.A Health Spending Account (HSA)—also known as a Private Health Services Plan—is a strategic tool for small business owners to manage healthcare costs with total flexibility. It transforms various out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as dental work, vision care, and prescription drugs, into a legitimate business expense.
This structure offers a dual tax advantage: contributions are 100% tax-deductible for your business, while the benefits received by you and your employees remain tax-free.*
By including an HSA in your compensation strategy, your business gains a powerful edge in recruiting and retaining top talent. It allows you to significantly increase the value you offer to staff without the ongoing overhead of a salary increase, fostering employee loyalty and stability while ensuring your team feels fully protected.
*Note: In Québec, these benefits are considered taxable for provincial income tax purposes.

Picture this: you worked for many, many years building your business, your brand, a legacy for your loved ones, but you did not plan for the cost of buying your share of the business after your passing! Don't let a lack of planning turn your business legacy into a family burden. We have solutions for scenarios like this.

Buy-sell agreements are legal contracts between business owners that pre-determine the transfer of ownership interests upon death, permanent disability, or retirement. These agreements provide a guaranteed buyer and a predetermined price (or valuation formula), ensuring the departing owner’s family receives fair liquid value for the asset while protecting surviving owners from incompatible new partners. Because partners often lack the immediate cash for large buyouts, life or disability insurance is typically used to provide the necessary capital.

Criss-cross insurance is a structure where individual owners hold policies on each other rather than the business owning them. In the event of a partner’s death or disability, the insurer pays a tax-free benefit directly to the surviving partner as the designated beneficiary. This provides the immediate liquidity needed to purchase the departing owner’s shares from their estate or family, facilitating a seamless transition of control.

Personal

At GT Advisory Solutions, we prioritize protecting your self-reliance. As an individual, you are your own primary provider, and your financial security depends on proactively managing life’s uncertainties. Our approach focuses on safeguarding your autonomy, ensuring that health events or unexpected debts do not compromise your standard of living or long-term goals. By securing your financial foundation today, you gain the freedom to pursue your ambitions with total peace of mind.
See below some of the main protection strategies that you should consider as an individual or even as a couple without dependents:
Disability Insurance: The Foundation of Your Independence
As an individual, you are your own primary provider. Disability insurance acts as your financial safety net, replacing a significant portion of your earned income if you become unable to work due to an illness or injury. This coverage ensures that even if your health is compromised, your ability to fund your own life and maintain your independence remains intact.

Critical Illness: Your Discretionary "Living Benefit"
A major health crisis shouldn't mean a financial crisis. Critical illness insurance provides a tax-free, lump-sum payment if you are diagnosed with a covered condition, such as cancer, heart attack, or stroke. Unlike other coverages, this is a "living benefit" that you can use at your total discretion, whether that means hiring professional help at home, accessing private medical treatments, or simply taking the time you need to recover without the stress of monthly bills.

Travel Insurance: Safeguard Your Financial Autonomy
Travel insurance protects your financial autonomy by covering emergency medical costs outside your home province. Because provincial benefits vary even within Canada, this coverage is a vital safety net to ensure unexpected health events don't deplete your personal savings or derail your long-term goals.

Long-Term Care: Protecting Your Autonomy
Plan for the future while protecting your right to choose. Long-term care insurance provides the funds necessary for professional healthcare services if you can no longer perform daily activities independently. By securing this coverage, you ensure that you have the financial resources to decide where and how you receive care—whether in the comfort of your own home or in a private facility—rather than relying solely on government-subsidized options.

Wealth Accumulation: Secure Your Future Standard of Living
Insurance isn't just for "what ifs"; it’s for "when." Using tools like segregated funds and annuities, you can build a secure financial future. Segregated funds offer unique maturity and death benefit guarantees to protect your invested capital while still allowing you to participate in market growth. For those nearing retirement, a life annuity can provide a guaranteed income for life, effectively eliminating the risk of outliving your savings.

Life Insurance: Legacy and Debt Protection
For a single person, life insurance is a powerful tool for estate planning and debt clearance. It ensures that any outstanding obligations, such as a mortgage or personal loans, are fully discharged so your estate remains solvent. It also allows you to create a lasting legacy by naming a favorite charity, friend, or family member as a beneficiary to receive a tax-free gift.
